Lucy A Bartho

Lucy Bartho is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Translational Obstetrics Group, co-led by Professor Tu’uhevaha Kaitu’u-Lino and Professor Stephen Tong. She completed her PhD in 2021, before moving to Department of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Newborn Health, Mercy Hospital for Women, University of Melbourne. Her current research aims to improve outcomes for mothers and babies through the discovery of novel biomarkers for preeclampsia and fetal growth restriction, and new therapeutics for ectopic pregnancy. She uses large-scale omics, screening technologies, and experimental placental models, while investigating the molecular drivers of placental dysfunction. The overall goal is to translate these discoveries into clinical applications. Lucy has secured approximately $3.6 million in competitive research funding as chief investigator and holds leadership roles within national and international placental research organisations.
